Our volunteers bring horticultural education, environmental stewardship, and hands-on garden care to schools, parks, nature centers, and public spaces across all of Baldwin County.
Baldwin County Master Gardeners serve communities throughout the county through hands-on garden projects at schools, parks, nature centers, and public spaces. Our trained volunteers provide horticultural education, environmental stewardship, and beautification across dozens of partner sites each year — from preschool gardens to public parks to research stations.

In partnership with the Alabama Wildlife Federation, BCMG volunteers are establishing a new pollinator garden featuring five native milkweed species at the Delta & Bay Conservation Center. This project directly supports monarch butterfly migration corridors and regional pollinator habitat restoration.
Spanish Fort Elementary Pollinator & Hydroponics Garden

Spanish Fort Elementary STEAM Program
BCMG volunteers support both indoor and outdoor garden spaces at Spanish Fort Elementary, including edible herb plantings, pollinator collections, and a hydroponics system — all integrated into the school's STEAM curriculum. Volunteers work with students every Thursday from 9–11 am, May through October.

Since 2015, BCMG volunteers have partnered with this beloved preschool to guide proper pruning of shrubs and removal of invasive plants, helping maintain a safe and beautiful outdoor environment for young learners. Workdays are held each spring and fall — typically one day in March and one in October.

Stapleton Elementary is a proud certified site of the Alabama Wildlife Federation's Habitat Learning Lab Program (formerly the AWF's Alabama Outdoor Classroom Program). This remarkable multi-station outdoor campus features ten distinct hands-on learning environments, each designed to connect students with the natural world through direct experience. BCMG volunteers support planting, maintenance, and seasonal transitions year-round, helping ensure these outdoor learning spaces remain vibrant and engaging for students and staff.

Located at the Baldwin County Extension Services office, this BCMG demonstration garden features landscape shrubs and ornamental plantings maintained through ongoing seasonal care. The site also serves as an active research location for Auburn University and Auburn & Merck milkweed pollinator studies, connecting our community work directly to university-level conservation science.

Since 2015, BCMG volunteers have maintained both a pollinator demonstration garden and a greenhouse at Coastal Alabama Community College, supporting native plantings that benefit local pollinators and providing a visible example of sustainable landscape practices for students, faculty, and the broader community.

In spring 2023, BCMG helped design and plant five distinct outdoor gardens at Fairhope West Elementary, creating a multi-faceted outdoor classroom for hands-on STEM learning. Volunteers assist with planting, maintenance, seasonal transitions, and the Great Southeast Pollinator Census for monarch butterfly tracking. In 2026, BCMG is working with the school's STEM coordinator to achieve Alabama Wildlife Federation Habitat Learning Lab certification.
Grand Hotel Pollinator Garden

The Grand Hotel, Autograph Collection
Launched in 2024, this project began when BCMG volunteers partnered with hotel management to replace non-native milkweed with beneficial native varieties, supporting monarch butterflies migrating along the Gulf Coast. The garden is now a designated official research site for Auburn University's Great Southeast Pollinator Census, where volunteers count and document insects visiting native milkweed species. New native seedlings are planted each spring for both beautification and ongoing research.

Since 2013, BCMG volunteers have helped maintain this beautiful bayfront park in Daphne's Old Towne district, where shade-loving ornamental and native plants are identified with educational tags for visitors. Seasonal workdays keep this scenic public space along Mobile Bay well-tended and inviting for the entire community.

This school demonstration pollinator garden at Pelican's Nest Science Lab features four raised beds of native grasses and flowering perennials, a frog pond, turtle habitat, and a wetland garden — all maintained using entirely organic methods. BCMG volunteers tend the garden on Tuesday and Friday mornings, supporting active youth education and ongoing ecological research in a truly unique outdoor space.

Fairhope–Point Clear Rotary Club
Since 2020, BCMG volunteers have guided young gardeners at this after-school program through spring and fall growing seasons, teaching children to plant and tend vegetables, herbs, and pollinator flowers. Students harvest and cook what they grow, learning about nutrition alongside plant science, healthy soil, composting, and beneficial insects — all in a fun, hands-on outdoor setting. Volunteer sessions meet Fridays from 3–5 pm during the school year.
Ruff Wilson Garden Gurus

Ruff Wilson Youth Organization
BCMG volunteers mentor children at Ruff Wilson's after-school program, teaching them to plant and tend raised beds of organic vegetables, herbs, and pollinator plants. Students choose what they grow, take produce home to share with their families, and learn the full life-cycle of plants, healthy soil, and "growing the foods that help us grow." Phase I raised beds launched in summer 2025; Phase II plans include a Three Sisters demonstration garden, shaded gathering space, and rain garden — scheduled for spring/summer 2026.
